HAPPY DAYS - DIAS FELIZES

Happy Days era uma série de TV em forma de uma sitcom apresentado originalmente entre 15 de janeiro de 1974 a 26 de maio de 1984, pela rede televisão ABC, enfocando a vida americana dos anos 50 e 60. Happy Days foi um dos sitcoms mais amados dos EUA, ficando no ar por dez anos, num total de 255 episódios, mas o seu início foi bem complicado.

Em 1972, Garry Marshall produziu um piloto sobre uma família de classe média nos anos 50, chamados New Family in Town que a ABC não aprovou. Os produtores decidiram usar parte dela como um segmento intitulado Love and the Happy Days para ser apresentado dentro da série antológica Love, American Style. Nessa mesma época surgiu o filme American Graffiti em 1973, que acendeu o interesse pelos anos 50 no coração dos americanos e somente neste clima que Happy Days pode ser finalmente concretizado.

Inicialmente o enredo girava em torno de Richie e Potsie, dois ingênuos garotos de colégio secundário no despertar de suas emoções adolescentes. O cenário principal era um bar onde eles passavam suas tardes, entre trotes, garotas e a música dos 50.

Mas logo o protagonista principal passou a ser ofuscado por um personagem secundário chamado Fonzie, talvez o primeiro roqueiro da televisão. Ele era mais velho dos garotos, portanto muito mais experimentado, esperto e com uma estética conhecida como "Greasy".

Topete, jaqueta de couro e uma moto ostentosa, eram a base deste visual tão cool, que fora popularizado antes por James Dean e mais tarde por John Travolta. Ele também batia de frente à correção de Richie, interpretado por Ron Howard, a ousadia solitária e marginal de Fonzie foi o que dava sal ao seriado. Henry Winkler, o carismático ator que deu vida à personagem, virou uma mega-estrela e levou o programa a recordes de audiência.

A carreira de ambos os atores teve um futuro muito diferente deste início, mas com o mesmo sucesso. Winkler se tornou produtor de tevê e foi o criador da série Mac Gyver e Ron Howard virou diretor de cinema de grandes êxitos como Splash, Cocoon e Apolo XIII.
