GOMER PYLE-USMC - FUZILEIRO DAS ARÁBIAS

Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. ou Fuzileiro das Arábias foi uma comédia rural e militar norte-americana, um spin-off de outra série famosa "The Andy Griffith Show", criada por Aaron Ruben e produzida por Sheldon Leonard e Ronald Jacobs, numa co-produção com Bruce Bayley, Johnson e E. Duke Vincent. Diversos roteiristas famosos como Everett Greenbaum e Jim Fritzell também escreveram vários episódios, e as músicas foram compostas Earle Hagen.

O espetáculo era centrado num personagem muito amável chamado Gomer Pyle (Jim Nabors), que anteriormente havia participado de muitas aventuras na cidade de Mayberry e que alista-se ao corpo de fuzileiros navais da marinha norte-americana, a famosa U.S.M.C., de onde ele passa a conviver com os seus novos amigos.

O seriado tem início quando depois de doze semanas de treinamento no Acampamento Boot, o recruta Gomer e seus companheiros são enviados para a Carolina do Sul para um treinamento mais avançado, para poderem finalmente se formar.

Lá chegando conhecem o temível instrutor, o sargento Vincent Carter (Frank Sutton) que tem por objetivo treinar esse novo pelotão, mas o que pobre coitado do sargento não contava, era ter que conviver com um sujeito tão atrapalhado quanto Gomer.

As diversas aventuras envolvem Gomer, o sargento Carter e outros companheiros em várias situações inusitadas, engraçadas e constrangedoras no decorrer dos episódios, tudo por causa desse novo e atrapalhado recruta.

Curiosamente,o ator Andy Griffith, que interpretava o personagem principal de “The Andy Griffith Show”, de onde Gomer era originário, também havia interpretado um personagem semelhante num filme de 1958, chamado "No Time for Seargents".

O espetáculo foi apresentado pela primeira vez nos Estados Unidos pela rede CBS, entre 25 de setembro de 1964 a 2 de maio de 1969, num total de 150 episódios, de aproximadamente 30 minutos cada, em cinco temporadas.

No Brasil foi exibido através da TV Record durante a década de 70, com grande sucesso, seguindo a mesma prosperidade em todos os países em que ela foi apresentada e também considerada como uma das grandes comédias de todos os tempos.
